Refi Helper — Privacy Policy

Your financial data is private. This policy explains exactly what Refi Helper does — and does not do — with the information you enter into the app.

Overview

Refi Helper is a personal finance app built by Aesepus Technology. It is designed from the ground up with privacy as a core principle: all data you enter into the app is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to Aesepus Technology or any third party, except in the optional, user-initiated integrations described in Section 4.

We do not require an account. We do not collect analytics. We do not track usage. The short version: your mortgage data stays on your phone.

1. Information We Collect

Aesepus Technology collects no personal information from Refi Helper users.

All data you enter into the app — property details, loan balances, interest rates, payment amounts, taxes, insurance, estimated values, and any notes — is stored exclusively in an encrypted database on your device. This data is never sent to our servers because we do not operate servers that receive it.

We do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or contact information
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Location data
  • Usage analytics or crash reports
  • Financial data of any kind

2. How Your Data Is Stored

Refi Helper uses an encrypted SQLite database stored on your device's local file system. This database is protected by the encryption mechanisms provided by your device's operating system and is accessible only by the app.

This means:

  • Your data is not backed up to any cloud service operated by Aesepus Technology
  • Your data is not accessible to other apps on your device
  • If you back up your device (e.g., iCloud, Google One), your app data may be included in that backup under your own account — governed by Apple's or Google's privacy policies, not ours
  • If you delete the app, all locally stored data is permanently removed

3. Offline Operation

Refi Helper works fully offline. All calculations — amortization schedules, refinance comparisons, PMI analysis, extra payment modeling, investment comparisons, and rental analysis — are performed on your device using data you have entered. No internet connection is required for any of these features.

4. Optional Third-Party Integrations

Refi Helper offers two optional integrations that fetch live data from external sources. These are entirely opt-in and require you to obtain and enter a free API key from each provider. Neither integration is enabled by default.

4a. Federal Reserve (FRED)

When you use the live rate fetch feature, the app makes a request to the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) API at fred.stlouisfed.org. This request retrieves current 30-year and 15-year fixed mortgage rates. The only data sent to FRED is your API key and the data series identifier — no personal information is included. FRED's privacy policy applies to this interaction: fred.stlouisfed.org/legal.

4b. RentCast AVM

When you request an automated property valuation, the app sends a property address to the RentCast API at rentcast.io to retrieve an estimated market value. This is the only scenario in which any property-identifying information leaves your device, and it occurs only when you explicitly tap the "Fetch Valuation" button. RentCast's privacy policy applies to this interaction: rentcast.io/privacy.

You are not required to use either integration. If you prefer to enter mortgage rates and property values manually, the app works identically without them.

5. Rate Drop Alerts & Notifications

If you enable rate drop alerts, Refi Helper schedules local notifications on your device when market interest rates fall below a threshold you set. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on-device using your operating system's local notification system. No notification data passes through Aesepus Technology's servers.

You can disable notifications for the app at any time through your device's system settings.

6. Analytics & Tracking

Refi Helper does not include any analytics SDK, crash reporting tool, advertising network, or user tracking library. We do not know how often you open the app, which features you use, or any other behavioral information.

7. Children's Privacy

Refi Helper is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, no special provisions for children's data are applicable.

8. Deleting Your Data

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it:

  • To delete a property and all its associated data, use the delete option within the app
  • To delete all data, uninstall the app from your device

There is no account to close and no data stored on our servers to request deletion of.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be published at this URL with an updated date. We will not change this policy in a way that reduces your privacy protections without providing notice through an app update.
